Maris Harrington joined the Great Lakes Center for the Arts in March 2016 as Director of Development, bringing her international experience and skills as a bridge builder and people connector to an extraordinary team working together to realize the vision of a cultural hub in Northern Michigan.
A Chicago native, Ms. Harrington lived in Paris for 20 years and relocated back to the Chicago area in 2013. She has now moved to Northern Michigan with her children. A graduate of Allegheny College, Pennsylvania, with degrees in French and history, she studied violin as well as being a varsity athlete and active in cultural, civic and philanthropic organizations. She holds a diploma from the Insitut Catholique in Paris in French language and culture, and studied art and architecture at the Ecole du Louvre in Paris. She taught and played the violin in diverse chamber groups and orchestras in the Paris area and Europe.
She has worked in education, teaching adults and children, as well as in volunteer management, development and fundraising at the Lycee International. She is Principal and Founder of a multi-cultural communications, marketing and development consulting firm.
As Principal Gifts Officer at Loyola University Chicago, Ms. Harrington worked with the Senior Leadership and the Board of Trustees to build strategic plans, cultivate partnerships and steward relationships to advance the mission of Loyola University Chicago.
