Jill O’Neill is Executive Director for the Great Lakes Center for the Arts. Her professional experience, work as a community volunteer, and background as a musician have prepared her to be an outstanding leader, ambassador, and advocate for the Center.
A Saginaw, Michigan native, Ms. O’Neill has more than two decades of financial and operational leadership experience including opening Bay Harbor Yacht Club in 1996, construction of the Bay Harbor Marina District in 1999, and serving as the Chief Financial Officer for Bay Harbor Company since 2003.
Ms. O’Neill is a Certified Public Accountant and worked for Arthur Andersen in Chicago as a Senior Financial Consultant prior to moving to Northern Michigan in 1995. Ms. O’Neill holds a Bachelor of Musical Arts in Flute Performance and a Bachelor of Business Administration, both from the University of Michigan.
As an accomplished flutist, Ms. O’Neill played in the Traverse Symphony Orchestra for seven years, performed with the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra Flute Choir, the Little Traverse Civic Theater Pit Orchestra, and the First Presbyterian Church of Harbor Springs and was both a camper and counselor with Interlochen’s Summer Arts Camp. This artistic history has introduced Ms. O’Neill to potential collaborators with the Great Lakes Center for the Arts, preparing her to develop outstanding programming for the Center.
Ms. O’Neill serves on the Board of Trustees and as Finance Committee Chair for McLaren Northern Michigan and served for six years on the Board of Trustees, Finance Committee and Scholarship Committee for the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation. These experiences have given her a deep understanding of nonprofit management practices.
Ms. O'Neill has an 11 year old son, Quinn, who attends Petoskey Public Schools. Together they spend time reading, playing backyard catch, skiing and riding bikes. She also enjoys traveling adventures and outdoors activities with her partner, Dr. JD Talbott.
