Great Lakes Cinema Series: Pavarotti
800 Bay Harbor Drive
Petoskey, MI 49770
“Even if lyric opera isn’t your taste, you’d be hard-pressed to deny that the void Pavarotti left in terms of worldwide exposure of classical music has not yet begun to be shoveled in. Ron Howard’s documentary doesn’t just make you miss the singer. It makes you miss, of all things, a robust music industry.”– L.A. Times
Pavarotti is an exclusive look into the personal story of Italy’s international operatic sensation, the man with the voice from God, Luciano Pavarotti. In this warm, emotional, fact-based, and completely involving film, Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard paints an intimate portrayal of Pavarotti using clips from the tenor’s iconic performances, alongside never-before-seen footage. Looking into the man behind the music, Howard tells the personal story of how Pavarotti crossed over into popular music, eventually becoming one of the most commercially successful tenors of all time.
Pavarotti, who died in 2007 at age 71, was celebrated like no tenor since Enrico Caruso, accounting for more than 100 million albums sold, including sales of “The Three Tenors,” the top-selling classical disc ever. Moreover, with 53 new interviews from those closest to Pavarotti, Howard’s documentary looks into the personal story of how an operatic legend became one of the biggest rock stars of classical music on the planet.
