Matthew Wawro is the new Development Director for the Great Lakes Center for the Arts and will oversee the fundraising and community relations efforts. Matt’s professional development experience spans over 25 years in educational and non-profit organizations, giving him an outstanding foundation to lead the philanthropic initiatives for the Center and serve as a strong ambassador to the community. Previously, Matt has served at the University of Michigan, Harvard University, Cranbrook Schools, Karmanos Cancer Institute and the Ford Historic Estates in various development roles. Most recently, he completed a significant campaign for the restoration of Fair Lane Estate, the 100-year old home of Henry and Clara Ford. He has been fundraising his entire career and has always excelled at attracting extraordinary resources for the organizations at which he has worked.
Matt has led several other fundraising campaigns from start to successful completion that have raised millions of dollars in support of capital, programming, endowment and annual funds. He has developed collaborations and relationships with individuals, corporations, and foundations across the country.
He has also served in various community organizations including Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Rotary Club, and most recently, as an Americana Foundation Board member.
Matt graduated from the University of Michigan and received his Master’s degree from Central Michigan University. Matt and his wife Elizabeth are relocating to Northern Michigan from Birmingham, Michigan in the coming weeks. Together, they have three children; Gabrielle, Jacob, and Dalton.
